Education
Dental
assisting is a complex and demanding profession that requires
a high level of skill and knowledge.
It is not mandatory to have any qualifications to become
a dental assistant, however it is recommended that dental
assistants study to receive their Certificate III in Dental
Assisting. This is the basic qualification and is a pre-requisite
for several other courses.
After completing Certificate III in Dental Assisting you
are eligible to progress on and do the Certificate IV in Dental
Radiography or the Certificate IV in Oral Health Education.
Dental Assistants who hold a Certificate IV in Dental Radiography
and are licensed with Radiation Health may take intraoral
and extraoral radiographs as per the dentists’ instructions.
Certificate IV in Oral Health Education enables you to give
oral hygiene and dietary advice to clients and develop suitable
programs for them in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
